Chapter 153

Winnie deciphered the coldness in his words. He was questioning why she had arrived late while he was in trouble, and she appeared indifferent.

She understood his sense of disappointment, but she could only silently bear all the bitterness.

She couldn't tell him that she had secretly gone to save Mr. Lancelot to turn the tables for him, because it was her uncle's wrongdoing.

She felt guilty for everything.

Moreover, she couldn't tell him that she was trapped in a hotel with Rock. In this situation, she was afraid he would go mad.

Winnie could only look at him with vacant eyes, pretending indifference as she said, "I was taking care of my uncle in Lymington, and my presence wouldn't have made any difference anyway."

The man's hand holding her collar suddenly loosened. His finger joints were elegant and beautiful, but they felt ice-cold.

Winnie stared blankly at his large hand and, when she looked up, she saw the abyss of indifference in his eyes. Tears had already welled up in her heart.

He stood up straight, his cold gaze turning red with anger, as he looked into the distance.

The shareholders beside him expressed their resentment, "Mr. Rodriguez, look at what she's saying! She's just a Vice President who doesn't care about data errors. She's only relying on your love for her!"

"She's going to ruin the company. She has no real ability."

"Look at Darcy, she came in last night despite being ill and handled everything smoothly this morning."

"What does Winnie have going for her?"

The shareholders complained, and Darcy listened with a hidden smirk blossoming in the corners of her eyes.

She walked affectionately to the man's side and said, "Mr. Rodriguez, you've been up all night. Go back and rest first, then we can visit Mr. Lancelot later."

Lawrence pursed his thin lips and didn't utter another word. He left Winnie behind and got into the car with his tall and chilly figure.

They got into several cars in a row and left quickly, leaving behind a chilling exhaust in the winter morning air at the police station.

As Bryan closed the car window, he looked at Mrs. Rodriguez standing alone at the entrance of the police station, feeling a tinge of sourness in his eyes. He couldn't believe Mrs. Rodriguez could be so cold-hearted.

Last night, Winnie didn't come to look after her uncle in Perugia City. Moreover, she had just rushed over to the police station; her clothes were soaked, and I don't know what happened.

But the CEO was furious and obviously didn't want to ask.

Bryan didn't dare to provoke him; he could only sigh silently.

Winnie slowly squatted down, looking up at the pouring sunlight. Today's weather is really good, no snow, not cold.

But her heart, why does it feel as cold as if it can never climb out of the abyss.

It hurt, what she wanted to say, but she couldn't. Just watch him walk away extremely disappointed. It was fine, let it end.

He is disappointed with her and may even suspect something. In that case, let this undesired relationship end, cut off from each other's future.

Because of the guilt her uncle gave her, the guilt towards this man has tormented her heart and mind.

The phone rang, Winnie saw that it was her uncle calling and answered it almost numbly.

Elliott's voice resonated with disappointment, "Did you go to save Mr. Lancelot last night? Winnie, can't you stand him getting into trouble? I could've succeeded this time, but you ruined my plan!"

Winnie didn't know how to reason with him, "Uncle, revenge cannot be done this way, it involves human lives."

"What do you know? He owes me! You just admit your own mistake and don't expose me. Otherwise, with his methods, do you know what my fate will be?" Her uncle warned her, asking her to continue lurking.

Winnie lifted her head and covered her face. Her eyes were filled with teardrops. It's precisely because she needs to protect her uncle that she didn't say a word just now.

But these days were driving her crazy.

Maybe, it was nearing the end.

He would abandon her, right? Such a big mistake would surely drive her out of the Kingdom Estates.

Winnie covered her chest, crying and smiling.

Perugia City Private Hospital

Lawrence went to visit Mr. Lancelot.

In the intensive care unit, Mr. Lancelot's consciousness was relatively clear. He was talking about last night, "While I was unconscious, it seems like I saw a white figure, a little girl. She was placing a needle on my head..."

The Lancelot family exchanged glances, all considering it to be a hallucination caused by Mr. Lancelot's illness.

Lawrence frowned.

Last night, Mr. Lancelot's condition was exceptionally critical. When he boarded the police car, Mr. Lancelot was already in the ambulance, and the doctor declared that there was no hope.

He knew he was in big trouble, but everything turned for the better this morning.

"Lawrence, you have tolerance, but the land matter has been settled; it was the previous bidder before you."

Mr. Lancelot's gaze towards the young man still held admiration.

Lawrence nodded lightly, "It was my own mistake. Take care of your health."

"You don't seem like someone who would make mistakes. Who did you hand the tender to?" Mr. Lancelot

Lawrence didn't answer, but nodded slightly before leaving the ward.

In the corridor, Lawrence narrowed his cold eyes and asked, "Which company was the previous bidder?" Bryan understood his meaning.

There was something suspicious about yesterday's events. The bidding company in front of Kingdom Estates had been talking to Mr. Lancelot for a long time, from 4 pm to 7 pm, clearly delaying the time and causing the CEO to arrive late.

To make matters worse, Mrs. Rodriguez's proposal had mistakes, and Mr. Lancelot had a stroke. Now the land had been given to that company, so Bryan immediately went to investigate.

"Mr. Rodriguez, it's an overseas construction company," Bryan replied with a furrowed brow. "Yesterday, their chief representative came, but we couldn't find any information about the company's owner. It's quite mysterious."

Lawrence insisted, "We must find out! Also, have you found Alan's whereabouts?"

Bryan hesitated for a moment, then looked sharply at the CEO's cold eyes and asked, "Are you suspecting..."

Lawrence remained unfazed, his expression unchanged. "It doesn't matter. A billion-dollar project is something he can afford to lose. He has always enjoyed competing with me from the shadows, even as a child. Mabel didn't educate this son of hers properly."

Alan had received favor from Blake, but Lawrence had always had a difficult life.

Now Alan wanted to take Lawrence's company from him!

Lawrence and his group walked towards the elevator, and the doors opened right on time.

Rock's elegant figure appeared. Lawrence didn't wear a mask, and his astonishingly handsome face made Rock furrow his brows, wondering what Winnie saw in this man. Was she deceived by his appearance? Rumor has it that Lawrence is ruthless in his methods and cold-hearted.

Lawrence recognized Rock, but didn't spare him a glance and directly entered the elevator.

As he passed by, Rock's brows tightened, and he uttered words filled with meaning, "Lawrence, you better treat Winnie well. She..."

Last night's incident involved improper medical treatment, and Rock could tell that she wanted to keep it a secret. The words were at the tip of his tongue, but he ultimately didn't say them.

However, Lawrence's icy gaze shot towards him, his imposing aura palpable. The two men faced each other, tension rising.

Lawrence sneered, his noble appearance oppressive regardless of his expression.

"Even if I don't treat her well, what can you do? Do you still think you can steal her away?"
